I
have struggled with weight problems all of my life. I first became aware of Weight
Watchers in my very early teens when my aunt joined and reached goal. This was
at the very beginning of the organization and Jean Neiditch was actually at one
of her meetings.
In July, 2005 I had a long overdue physical and found out that not only was
my weight up to 313 lbs but my blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglycerides
were dangerously high. As I was then 52 years old I became very frightened that
my life would be cut short because of my careless attitude towards what I put
into my body and how I treat myself.I
made up my mind to begin Weight Watchers “for real” this time. My starting
weight then was 308.8 lbs. (recently had to visit my chiopractor and he told me the last time I had been to see him was in 2003. In his records it showed that I weighed 327 lbs - it translates that to date I have lost 147 lbs)
Over
the course of my time on the program I have been very fortunate to have an
enthusiastic and empathetic meeting leader, Melanie Cohen. I have learned about
healthy eating, proper portions, changing my attitude about food, and
incorporating exercise into my life. I now realize that all of these things
must be a permanent change for me in order to stay healthy and lose weight/maintain
the loss. I really enjoy what I eat now. I concentrate on eating slowing and
actually tasting the food, as opposed to eating mindlessly or when distracted.
The
weight loss I have achieved has really impacted my life. I feel immensely
better. Some days I feel that I have unlimited energy. I go to the gym 5 days a week and the rest of the time I make sure I
walk. I now walk about an hour on my “non-gym” days. I have begun
walking to and/or from work. I enjoy it very much and I find it is such an easy
way to exercise. I turn on my music and I’m good to go! When
I do take the subway, climbing flights of stairs is no longer a chore. No more
stopping on the steps or when I reach the top, to catch my breath.
On a
recent vacation I actually wore shorts and a bathing suit, and went bicycle
riding (which I hadn’t done in around 30 years). Flying on a plane has become
much easier and more enjoyable now too.My
health is much better and my doctor is thrilled with the new me. I have more
energy, my mind is clearer, and I no longer shop at the “big and tall” store! I am
completely committed to this for the rest of my life. As someone so eloquently
put it on Weight Watchers etools, “This is a journey of persistence, not
perfection.” I am happy to know that I will be attending a meeting weekly, as
it gives me encouragement, suggestions, and hope. The benefits of this program
and my decision to follow it are innumerable. Nothing tastes as good as healthy
feels!
As of my current weigh in I have lost a total of 128.8 pounds from my starting WW meeting on Aug 5, 2005-- it can be done- AND ITS WORTH IT.
On August 18, 2006 I was hired by Weight Watchers and now work at 4 meetings each week. The people working for Weight Watchers are wonderful and I love being able to help members in THEIR journey to a better, healthier life.

I joined WW on Aug 4, 2005 and followed the FLEX plan. In mid-May I made the switch to CORE. It is fantastic and I recommend it to anyone that is considering the switch. It is based on Healthy, wholesome foods--You don't have to count every single thing you put into your mouth, and with just very small changes it works perfectly!..
